Most of the time frenectomies are performed on patients in childhood. The surgery often alleviates speech impediments and helps patients who otherwise have a hard time chewing and eating.
Over the years, the frenectomy surgery has become much less invasive and painful. This is because of newer technology including the dental laser. Our team of professionals works with you and your child to decide if a frenectomy is a good choice for them.

What is A Frenectomy?
A frenectomy is a procedure where frenal tissue is removed. Frenual tissue is a small fold that prevents an organ from moving too far. If there is too much tissue in the fold it can cause restriction of the tongue or lips.
The two types of frenums found in the mouth are lingual and labial. The lingual frenum connects the tongue to the bottom of the mouth and if there is too much frenal tissue it can constrict the tongue and cause a speech impediment or trouble chewing. The labial frenum connects the lips to the gums above or below the teeth.
